These calculus apps have a lot to offer anyone learning derivatives, integrals, limits, and more. They can help you get ready for a ​high school test, prepare for AP calculus exams, or refresh your calculus knowledge for college and beyond.

Description: Although you can study for 14 different AP tests with this app alone, you can opt to purchase only the AP calculus pack. The test questions and explanations come from McGraw-Hill's AP 5 Steps to a 5 series and closely mirror the topic, format, and degree of difficulty you'll find on the AP calculus test. You'll get 25 questions for free and another 450 to 500 if you download the calculus pack. Detailed analytics allow you to review your weekly progress and learn your strengths and weaknesses.

Why you need it: The content comes directly from a big name in test prep, and since they stake their reputation on their work, it should to be accurate.

Description: If you need to calculate limits, derivatives, integrals, and Taylor expansions, this app is indispensable. Plot two- and three-dimensional figures, solve almost any equation, define custom functions, use conditional expressions, and enter physical formulas with corresponding units and convert results to the units you prefer. You can also print or export your plots as PDF files. It's perfect for homework.

Why you need it: An app that promises to replace your TI-89 better be good. Every function is explained in the built-in reference guide in case you're stuck. Plus, you don't have to be online to use it, so your teachers shouldn't have an issue with you using it in class.  

Khan Academy Calculus 1 - 7

Description: Learn calculus via video with the nonprofit Khan Academy. With this series of apps, you can access 20 calculus videos per app (20 for Calc 1, 20 for Calc 2, etc.), which are downloaded directly to your iPhone or iPod touch so you don't need Internet access to watch and learn. Covered topics include limits, squeeze theorem, derivatives, and more.

Why you need it: If you're confused about a calculus topic but you missed that portion of the lecture and no one's around to help, you can check out a video on this app.

Magoosh Calculus

Description: Review precalculus and learn derivatives and integrals with video lessons created by Mike McGarry, a math tutor with over 20 years of experience teaching math and science. There are 135 lessons (over six hours of video and audio),  just a sampling of Magoosh lessons available. If you want them all, you can sign up for a Magoosh premium account.  

Why you need it: The first 135 lessons are free, and the rest are available online for a small fee. The lessons are interesting and comprehensive, so you won't be snoring your way through calculus.
