Summer Tutoring Programs for Your Kid
Three Summer Tutoring Programs to Boost Your Child's Grades

By Kelly Roell, About.com

Has your little darling's test scores been worrying you? Have the grades been less than ideal? Is your child showing one or more of the top 10 signs that he or she needs summer tutoring?

Then check out these three summer tutoring options below to see if one is right for you and your family.

Sylvan

Highly esteemed, these franchised tutoring centers, with locations all over the globe, have many different summer tutoring options for your kid. Their basic summer tutoring program, which is personalized to meet your child's individual needs, is 3 hours a week for 12 weeks, and comes with a guarantee: If your child doesn't improve one full grade level in those twelve weeks, they'll give you an additional 12 hours of instruction free of charge.

Your best bet is to start the program in July and continue through the start of the school year so your child can use the tutoring program to help them get organized at the beginning of their new schedule in August or September.

Huntington Learning Center

Another highly esteemed franchised learning center is Huntington, which offers kids ages 5-17 summer tutoring in many different areas like reading, phonics, math, writing, vocabulary, SAT/ACT test prep and more. Like Sylvan, Huntington customizes the summer tutoring session to meet the needs of your child and offers diagnostic testing up front to see where to best help.

TutorsTeach.com

This website offers versatility for your summer tutoring sessions, because it is basically a directory of tutors from your area who are willing to tutor in the subjects and time frame your child would need. You can search the tutoring database for free to locate a tutor in your area, and set up a meeting either online or in-person.

The good part about this? The tutoring rates are decided individually and are often negotiable.

The bad part about this? Besides running your own background check and requesting transcripts and recommendation letters, you're left to your own wits to decide if the tutor is the right person for your kid.

Fill in the blank with your own silly, scary or serious story about when you first knew you or someone else needed a tutor, ASAP!
