What's on the TOEIC Listening Test?

The TOEIC Listening Test is Section 1 of the Traditional TOEIC exam, also known as TOEIC Listening and Reading. The TOEIC Speaking and Writing Exam is administered separately. So what should you know about TOEIC Listening before you register for the test? Read on for more information.

TOEIC Listening Sections

Part One: Photographs

  • 10 questions
  • View photographs and hear four sentences describing the photos.
  • Questions and answers spoken only.

Part Two: Question-Response

  • 30 questions
  • Listen to a prompt and choose the best response.
  • Questions and answers spoken only.

Part Three: Conversations

  • 30 questions
  • Listen to 10 conversations with 3 questions each between two speakers. After each, answer either a printed or verbal question.
  • The choices will be printed in the test booklet.

Part Four: Short Talks

  • 30 questions
  • Listen to 10 talks with 3 questions each between two people talking about office issues, or individuals giving a news report or other information.
  • Idioms and vocabulary in context are tested extensively in this section.
