The Graduate Management Admissions Test

The GMAT is a standardized test required for application to many business schools. You will need to take it to enter MBA and other graduate management programs. The GMAT doesn't evaluate your knowledge of business, management, or any other specific subject, however: it tests general verbal, math, and writing skills, much like the GRE. Theoretically, you should have honed these skills over the course of your education, but even the makers of the GMAT acknowledge that testers need to prepare with test-specific materials.

It's often necessary to score above a certain cut-off for consideration as an applicant. Different schools have different cut-offs, with more prestigious schools being the most demanding. Scores have been shown to correlate with academic success in business school, so it is important for you to score well to prove yourself as a worthy candidate to admissions counselors.

The GMAT has a reputation for being tough, especially its Quantitative section. But with a little help and guidance, and a lot of practice, you can steer yourself to high scores.
