The Medical College Admission Test

The MCAT is a computer-based, multiple-choice standardized test required for admission into most medical schools. It is designed to identify students who think critically, and who know basic science and can apply it. These are the skills that medical schools want to see in incoming students.

The MCAT contains four sections: Physical Sciences, Verbal Reasoning, a Writing Sample, and Biological Sciences. The science sections are content-based, and you should have learned the relevant material through college classes. The other two sections simply require you to demonstrate that you can read critically, understand how to make inferences from texts, and can write a coherent essay.

Although MCAT test scores aren't the only factor for getting into medical school, they're critical. These are the numbers that will qualify you for consideration at elite medical schools and make you eligible for scholarships. Anyone can achieve high MCAT scores - you just need to study wisely and practice on sample MCAT tests.
