If you just need a very brief refresher of Praxis material and want to take one perfectly authentic practice test, this book will serve your needs. But if you want thorough lessons, you'll need another Praxis prep book.
By itself, the PPST Study Guide fulfills 4 of my high expectations for an ideal Praxis study guide.
First, you'll review for each section.
The reviews are brief, which may be adequate for some students and insufficient for others. If you're basically familiar with the material and just need a refresher, it should be fine. But if not - especially if you've ignored math since high school - you'll need more thorough lessons like those in the Cliffs and Barron's study guides.Meanwhile, you'll get a little practice.
There aren't many practice problems, but you'll find at least one example of every type of question found on the Praxis. There are detailed solutions for these sample questions. Finally, you'll test.
The one full-length Praxis found in this book is the most authentic test available, since it is actually a test that was formerly used in Praxis administrations. Detailed solutions are provided for each test question. In my opinion, one practice test is really not adequate for familiarizing oneself with the question types and test format, so I would recommend buying this book in addition to another book with more practice tests.
In short : Not sufficient preparation for everyone
This book will not be adequate if you need a thorough review of the material covered on the Praxis. You will benefit from the authenticity of this book, but you'll also need a book with more detailed lessons. If you don't need a detailed review of the material, this book will give you just what you need: a brief refresher and authentic practice problems, however limited.
If you're planning to take the computer-based Praxis, adequate advice and information is provided about it.
