Top 3 Praxis I (PPST) Books

From About.com

A high quality Praxis prep book will optimize your study time and help you raise your scores efficiently.

Here are my favorite Praxis PPST prep books for different types of students. Pick the one that best suits your needs and abilities. I recommend flipping through each book before buying to see if the tone and style of the book appeals to you - so you'll want to study.

1. Praxis I: PPST (Cliffs Test Prep)

Praxis I: PPST by Cliffs Test Prep is a complete guide to succeeding on the Praxis PPST, and it's the most efficiently organized Praxis prep book. If you need a book that will take you from 0 to a passing score, this may be the one for you. It has concise, well-explained lessons on every subject covered by the Praxis, plenty of practice problems throughout, and 3 full-length practice tests - all with detailed solutions. The only drawback applies if you're planning to take the computer-based Praxis: this book is geared towards the paper-based Praxis, and doesn't offer a practice test in the computer-based format.

2. How to Prepare for the PPST and Computerized PPST (Barron's)

Barron's How to Prepare for the PPST and Computerized PPST is a complete study guide for the Praxis PPST. It provides thorough lessons and plenty of practice problems for all of the subjects tested on the Praxis. There are 3 full-length practice tests, and all of the problems in the book are explained with detailed solutions. If you're planning to take the computer-based Praxis I, this is the only book that has a full-length practice test in the computerized style. But there are drawbacks: the lessons aren't as focused as the Cliffs book, and the practice problems are less realistic as well.

3. PPST Study Guide (ETS)

The official Praxis PPST Study Guide by ETS has one key advantage: it contains the only authentic, previously administered Praxis practice test. The other prep books have practice tests that are quite realistic, but they aren't the real thing. If you don't need much review, but you do want to see an authentic Praxis test, this may be the book for you. But if you do need review, this book doesn't have thorough lessons and plentiful practice problems like the other two study guides.
