All About the PSAT / NMSQT for High School Students
The PSAT is not required by colleges, but it offers many benefits for high school students: it prepares you for the SAT, and it is your only chance to qualify for prestigious National Merit Scholarships.
The PSAT is administered to high school sophomores and juniors in the month of October. For 2 hours and 10 minutes, you'll be answering multiple choice questions in the subjects of Math, Critical Reading, and Writing - all very similar to the SAT in content and format.
Your score will help you plan for the future by indicating how you will perform on more critical standardized tests if you remain at your current level. Once you've tested, you'll recognize your weak areas and be able to start strengthening them.
