The Test of English as a Foreign Language
The TOEFL, or Test of English as a Foreign Language, is designed to evaluate an individual's competency in using and understanding academic English at the college level. Non-native students are often required to take the TOEFL before admission into American educational institutions.
The TOEFL is most commonly taken in the computer-based format, though it is offered in a paper-based format if computer testing is not available. It consists of 4 sections in Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression, Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary, and Essay Writing.
