Objectives:
- Given a set of eight vocabulary words, a student will be able to use and spell each word correctly in a letter.
- Given a letter from another student, a student will be able to critique the vocabulary usage in the letter.
Bloom’s Taxonomy Category in the Cognitive Domain:
- Application: Use a concept in a new situation or unprompted use of an abstraction. Applies what was learned in the classroom into a new situation.
- Synthesis: Builds a structure or pattern from diverse elements. Put parts together to form a whole, with emphasis on creating a new meaning or structure.
- Evaluation: Critiques or forms judgments with personal or attained knowledge

Materials Needed:
- Enough copies of the mystery vocabulary letters handout for every student in class. (See PDF link below)
- Vocabulary lists with at least eight vocabulary words
- Lined paper
- Pencils
- Red pens for each student
Procedures:
- Instruct student to take out vocabulary lists they already have
- Distribute copies of the mystery vocabulary letters handout.
- Review the instructions at the top of the sheet with the class.
- Working in pairs, give students 15 – 20 minutes (or your own time frame) to work on their vocabulary letters.
Review – Last 20 Minutes of Class:
- Have each pair join another partnership, forming a quad.
- Have the pairs exchange letters, and grade each other's usage of the vocabulary words with the red pens
- After they've graded the letters, have the students turn in their group's work together
Assessment:
Grade the assignment according to the rubric on the bottom of the handout.
